God's words have total power

Eight times in the creation account, the Bible reveals simply that "God said..."  (Genesis 1:3-26).

He just "said."  That's all.  And with simply those eight expressions, the entire universe and humanity were created! It was God's words that created all that is.  He spoke words, and it happened.  The New Testament explains:

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear (Hebrews 11:3, KJV).

There was nothing; He spoke; then all of a sudden there was something.  By the sheer power of His words, God "calls things that are not as though they were" (Romans 4:17).

Once creation was completed, it is now God's words which sustain it all:

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word (Hebrews 1:3).

God speaks through the Bible.  They are His words, transmitted through human vessels.  And because they are His words, they have no less power than His words at creation.  They have ongoing creative power.  As mentioned, they are "alive."
